The rules
5 steps.
- Everyone gets a hand of cards. Only you can see yours.
- One person sits out as the judge and reads the sentence aloud.
- Everybody else plays a card face down to fill the hole.
- The judge reads them all out, not knowing whose is whose, and picks a favourite.
- That card wins the round. Everyone draws back up and the judge moves on.
What the phone does
The phone deals the hands, keeps them private, shuffles the cards before the judge sees them and remembers the score. It never decides which one is funniest — that is the judge, and it is meant to be unfair.
It is a dealer and a scorekeeper, never a judge. It cannot hear the room and it does not decide who was right.
